Katie's Story

Article Pic

In May 2006, 11 year old Katie Estrella fell from her horse and suffered a spinal cord injury between her shoulder blades, which left her paralyzed from the waist down. She told her friends and family that they couldn't stop her from riding and even though she can't walk, Katie is now able to ride around the neighborhood and has started showing again.

Katie's family, friends and her local church have partnered to raise funds to pay for her treatment at Project Walk, an intensive exercise program in Carlsbad, CA, and Katie is working hard with hopes of regaining strength and the ability to walk again. Other clients of Project Walk with similar injuries have regained the ability to walk, and though Katie has been there only a short time, she is already making improvements such as beginning to feel muscle movement and have some control of the movement of her hips and legs.

Unfortunately, Project Walk is not covered by insurance and is very expensive; costs are approximately $2200 per month. We have set a goal of raising $25,000 over the next year to cover Katie's expenses from Project Walk. With your help and Katie's determination and dedication, SHE WILL WALK AGAIN!
